Our big topic today on both the IDEAS segment with Ayo Obe and on the main programme: Are Local Governments finally going to get their rightful financial autonomy? The National Financial Intelligence Unit has recommended that the Joint State Local Government Account can only be used to receive money, and that Local Government funds can only be disbursed after they have reached the rightful Local Government account and only for Local Government purposes. The deadline for implementation is June 1. So we start with that with Ayo, she will help us clarify what the Constitution says as well, as well as her informed and educated opinion on these recommendations. And shortly after, we will engage you, our wonderful listeners.

Ayo Obe is going to be talking with the Executive Director of the Social Economic Rights Accountability Project, SERAP, Adetokunbo Mumuni, who will be talking to us about lawmakers and executives who are awarding themselves pensions. The morals behind this and all of that, is what we’re going to be looking at during the IDEAS segment and the Ethics question.

We’re looking, we’re going to be talking about political office holders who are not going to be returning to office, who include most notably Governors who will not have a second term or who have already served out their second terms. Things like awarding late contracts, appointments which will be happening between now and inauguration day, as well as some who will be granting amnesty or pardon to some convicts.

it’s a big day because we’re looking at Chibok, five years after. Believe it or not, how time flies when schoolgirls, 291 of them, I remember very well that day, were taken. The anniversary falls on the weekend but we’re going to be looking the issues concerning the recap of the abduction, how citizen-led advocacy has sustained accountability. And then the Bring Back Our Girls campaign, also a key part of the day’s discussion.

So, on the Ideas segment today, with Ayo Obe, we are looking at the developments in Rivers State where the last of the gubernatorial elections for the 2019 election cycle is going on, and the collation of results recommenced on the 2nd of April, and INEC says this will run until the 5th, and that if there are any supplementary elections to be held, that will take place on the 13th.

On the IDEAS segment with Ayo Obe which begins straightaway, we’re looking at the integrity of the supplementary election, as well as the big story which is coming out with respect to the Osun election where Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party, according to the tribunal has been declared the winner of that poll. The court … the tribunal also declared that the certificate handed to Gboyega Isiaka be handed over to Ademola Adeleke, and saying that the supplementary election should never have happened in the first instance.
